It is our vision to unite college students and individuals with intellectual disabilities by developing and enhancing a culture of acceptance and inclusion. Together these components can help students work for and with Special Olympics athletes to help transform school campuses into communities of acceptance and respect through sports, friendship and advocacy.
Since its inception in 1996, the Big 12 Conference has proudly partnered with Special Olympics Texas and continues to work closely with other state programs. Special Olympics athletes have become a familiar presence at Big 12 Championships including the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's & Women's Basketball Championships. Through sports, Special Olympics athletes have opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, learn new skills, gain self-confidence, set goals and reach expectations.
