The Healthy Athletes program has become the largest global public health organization dedicated to serving people with intellectual disabilities.
If a screening reveals that an athlete needs glasses (including sport glasses) or orthotics, those items are provided to the athlete free of charge (while supplies last), thanks to generous grants provided by health-related companies.
Special Olympics Texas provides approximately 1,500 health screenings annually at the Winter Games, Summer Games and Fall Classic state competitions.
Clinical Directors are responsible for working with their local Special Olympics Program and other volunteer health professionals in coordinating event screenings. Read full details here.
A Health Messenger is a Special Olympics athlete who has been trained to serve as a health and wellness leader, educator, advocate and role model within their Special Olympics community or the community at large. Read full details here and SUBMIT YOUR HEALTH MESSENGER request here.
